Perched at the top of the valley road linking Maesteg with the A4107, Croeserw takes its name from a farm and wool factory. The original village is surrounded by more recently built housing. With the Llynfi Valley to the south and the Afan Valley to the north the village is in a very scenic setting, but nonetheless suffers from a high rate of unemployment and associated issues.
