Marcross, Vale of Glamorgan

In 1830 a passenger steamer, the Frolic, was wrecked off Nash Point, and in order to avoid any recurrence a lighthouse was established to mark the Nash sandbank on the northern side of the Bristol Channel. Opened in 1832, it originally used two towers: the eastern, shown in this picture, which is the larger with a height of 37 metres, and the western, with a height of 25 metres. The lower of the two lights still stands but it no longer in use.
