Looking over the villages of Tynewydd and Blaencwm at the head of the Rhondda Fawr Valley, towards the steep ridge of Mynydd Blaenwhynfi. A railway tunnel, disused since 1965, enters the hillside just beyond Blaencwm, emerging on the other side of the ridge at Blaenwgynfi.
