Llansteffan Castle Great Gatehouse

The lower ward was added to Llansteffan Castle in the mid 13th Century to improve defences and add to the accommodation. The great gatehouse (left) was added towards the end of the same century. This view over the curtain wall along the Towy estuary towards Carmarthen gives an idea of the strategic position of the castle.
